Today’s the day: Spaghetti dinner, silent auction … and KG’s birthday

Posted on January 21, 2012

Happy birthday, Kevin! So very glad you made it.

We hear you’re probably feeling good enough to attend today’s free-will-offering spaghetti dinner and accompanying silent auction for your benefit at the Knights of Columbus in Grand Forks. You know the time — 4 to 8 p.m. — and we’ll be delighted to have you, even if you are wearing a mask for protection. If that makes you just a tad cranky, hey, we’ll understand.

Play it safe, K.G. After all,  the liver transplant you had at the Mayo complex in Rochester, Minn., back in early November was traumatic, but so was your rapidly failing health. Yeah, you don’t need reminding, but it’s good to see your health, and your life, on the upswing again.

Remember this: We want you around for a long, long time. You … AND Javier.

We laughed when we found out Team Grinde – your family member support team — had named your new liver.

So, welcome, Javier the liver. We truly appreciate your presence. In so many ways, you — and the person who chose to donate you in the event of death — are giving today’s gathering life. All of Kevin and Sara’s family, friends and colleagues are glad you are here and so grateful for that person’s extraordinarily generous gift.

As for you, Kevin, see you — and Sara, and daughters Arin, Alexis and Aleah, and grandkids and other family members gathered today — at the Knights of Columbus. In case you forgot, it’s at 601 University Ave., near the north end of downtown Grand Forks.
